The tournament was organized by the Federation of University Sports and the Georgian Rugby Union, in which accredited higher education institutions of Georgia participated.
As Archil Ioseliani, the head of the Sports Department of the Georgian Technical University said, the “Shvidkaca” rugby team has been participating in tournaments since 2002 and has won many victories over the past 22 years.
“The victory of the “Shvidkaca” rugby team of the Georgian Technical University is the result of the tireless work of coaches Irakli Giorkhelidze, Dimitri Kalandadze, and students. Their success is directly related to the desire of the Rector, Academician Davit Gurgenidze, to revive the sports traditions of the university, for which he spares no effort, and the results are visible. It should be noted that the tournament goal is to popularize rugby in Georgia. We choose a healthy lifestyle, and rugby is our game. I would like to thank the tournament organizers, the Rector of the GTU, and the entire composition of the ‘Shvidkaca” rugby team. I wish success to the university”, said Archil Ioseliani.
It also should be noted that Nika Shvelidze, the GTU rugby “Shvidkaca” team player, was named the best player of the Tbilisi Rugby Tournament.
