An exhibition of student works created on the theme of Georgian national clothing was organized at the Georgian Technical University under the co-organization of the Christian Culture Research University Laboratory and the student clubs of Michel Mouskhely, Niko Nikoladze, and Nodar Tabidze.
The artwork displayed in the lobby of the GTU administration building was mostly created by the Bachelor students of Fashion Design Technology program, from the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design.
At the exhibition, the works created in different materials by the Bachelor’s degree students of the educational program of architecture and the International School of Design were presented.
The student exhibition was viewed by the vice-rector of the Georgian Technical University, associate Professor Tamar Tsereteli, students of various faculties, and professors and employees of the administration.
As the vice-rector noted, on the initiative of the rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, the purpose of the university event is to strengthen the national spirit among students and promote the popularization of national traditions.
As Tamar Tsereteli said, it is seen in the students’ works how thoroughly the young people studied Georgian traditional clothes and the attributes our ancestors used for everyday life or ritual purposes.
“It is joyful that our students perfectly coped with the difficult task, based on the concept of national clothes, to create sketches of costumes that modern Georgians wear with pleasure and pride. We can confidently say that the sketches of men’s and women’s costumes presented in the exhibition are distinguished by their high artistry, amazing colors, and originality. Our students were able to convey the uniqueness, individuality, and variety of national clothes, headdresses, belts, and related attributes, which were created over the centuries and also were changing according to the country’s geographical and socio-political situation. In the works of the students, attention is drawn to the combination of colors, the quality of historical Georgian fabrics and unique ornaments highlighted in them, the different styles of clothing of our ancestors in the mountains and lowlands of Georgia, in the west and the east, which are completely adapted to the needs of modern people both in everyday life and on special or festive occasions. On behalf of the rector, Mr. David Gurgenidze, I would like to congratulate our young people on their first serious success, especially the students and their teachers of the fashion design technology undergraduate program of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design”, noted Tamar Tsereteli.
At the end of the event, the vice-rector of the Georgian Technical University presented commemorative diplomas to the students participating in the exhibition.
