At the Georgian Technical University, the “Nodar Tabidze University Student Club” invited Lia Metreveli, professor of the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies, and Social Sciences of GTU, to a meeting with students within the framework of the “Lecturer's Hour” project.
The fourth meeting held within the framework of “Lecturer’s Hour” was devoted to the life and work of Vazha-Pshavela.
At the meeting with students, Professor Lia Metreveli drew attention to the important stages of the life of the ever-modern greatest writer and discussed high-profile literary events, including Akaki Tsereteli’s confrontation with Vazha-Pshavela. She mentioned that among the Georgian figures of that time, no one manifested public admiration for Vazha-Pshavela’s talent as much as Akaki did, and no one came out with such sharp criticism against him.
Lia Metreveli also talked about Vazha’s death and his reburial to the “Mtatsminda Pantheon”, and discussed some of Vazha’s genius works in light of modernity.
With the active participation of students, the conversation was about the poet’s unique worldview, national self-awareness, personal and spiritual perfection, which was formed in the long nights of the Pshavian winter, Vazha’s incredible ability to access the secrets of nature and his poetic style, which strongly distinguishes in the Georgian literature of the 19th century; how Vazha-Pshavela, separated from the civilized world, broke through the frames of Georgian poetic speech and how he enriched the vocabulary by introducing dialectal and old Georgian forms, how he followed the most difficult processes of the spiritual development of humankind, looking for answers to the painful questions of the era, as well as sources of healing from them.
Lia Metreveli finished “Lecturer’s Hour” with Vazha-Pshavela’s poem – “Pshavali’s Love”.
The “Nodar Tabidze University Club” members thanked Professor Lia Metreveli for the interesting and informative meeting.
“The meeting had a great impact on the students. Mrs. Lia Metreveli has an exceptionally interesting delivery ability and evokes indelible emotion in the listeners. She also used to be my teacher, and even today, I listened to her speech as attentively as during the lecture course. I was observing the audience and saw the admiring faces of our students. We hope that Lia Metreveli will continue to cooperate with the “Nodar Tabidze University Student Club” in the future”, said Archil Gurgenidze, the president of the club and a student of the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies and Social Sciences of GTU.
Members of the “Nodar Tabidze University Student Club”, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies and Social Sciences, Professor Tamar Khokhobashvili, professors, and students of various faculties attended the meeting.
