A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Georgian Technical University and the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The cooperation document was signed by the rector of the Georgian Technical University, the academician David Gurgenidze, and the president of the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, academician Givi Djaparidze.
According to the memorandum, based on scientific priorities and state interests, the parties will work together on important scientific and educational challenges for the country in the agrarian sector, as well as develop and deepen research relations between scientists, which in turn will help future generations to receive higher education following international requirements and internationalization of research.
According to the rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, the collaboration between the Georgian Technical University and the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the fields of science and education, based on the principles of mutual understanding and respect, with the participation of the international partner organizations of the parties, will find a sharp positive reflection in the process of overcoming the existing scientific challenges.
“The Georgian Technical University has a long-term relationship with the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. By signing the memorandum, we will use the intellectual capabilities of the university and the academy more actively and purposefully, and we will make joint efforts to support the development of higher education and agricultural sciences in the country, to raise new generations of professionals.
The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering operates in the university, which is successful in many ways, both with demanding educational programs of all three levels, as well as with bachelor’s and master’s programs developed in collaboration with leading European universities, upon completion of which young people receive a double, Georgian and European university diploma.
The faculty is equipped with the latest laboratory base for agricultural and related fields. It is also worth noting the university's new Faculty of Mountain Sustainable Development, whose priority educational programs are, to some extent, connected with agricultural sciences. Taking into account the above, with the involvement of our scientific-academic circles and students, we are allowed to work much more actively on the foundation of new scientific centers, joint projects, and new joint educational programs, as a result of the implementation of which, on the one hand, we will promote the integration of education and science in agrarian industries and the rise of the country’s economy; on the other hand - perfecting the scientific terminology, developing Georgian agricultural science, actively presenting its capabilities in the international space, as well as preparing proposals for state agencies about the expected results of economic, agrarian, ecological and social projects going on in the world”, said David Gurgenidze.
The rector drew attention to the important joint events, the implementation of which will start shortly within the framework of the memorandum. According to his statement, with the participation of scientists and students, joint scientific discussions, symposia, conferences, pieces of training, and seminars on such topical issues as the introduction of modern methods of agrarian direction, scientific achievements, and innovative technologies, development of organic farms, fight against ecological disasters, agricultural perfecting the designated land management system, promoting sustainable mountain development, will become regular. As the rector noted, the parties will jointly take care of the preparation of grant research projects with the participation of students, the publication of scientific publications, and the organization of joint events and exhibitions to popularize scientific achievements and Georgian science.
The signing of the memorandum was attended by the Chancellor of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Karlo Kopaliani, Deputy Rector for Science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering, Academician Edisher Kvesitadze, representatives of the GTU administration and students, as well as academicians of the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
