A screening of Elene Matskhonashvili’s play “Niko Nikoladze” was held at the Georgian Technical University within the framework of the Fourth International Festival of Children’s and Youth Theaters of Tbilisi.
The play, in connection with the 180th anniversary of the great Niko Nikoladze, was staged in the Poti Theater with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia and was presented to the students of the Georgian Technical University and the university community as part of the festival.
The attending public was informed about the play by the deputy rector of GTU in the field of science. Professor Tamar Lominadze noted that the play was successfully presented to Georgian and international audiences at different times. At the Tbilisi International Festival of Children and Adolescents, it received the prize: Best Performance.
“The troupe of the Poti Theater presents a play that deals with the life and work of Niko Nikoladze, an essential topic for the Georgian Technical University. “What a disaster it would be for our country if the people of Kartli, Kakheli, and Imereti ever evaded being Georgians and showed off as Kartlian, Kakhelian, and Imerian. This kind of character of the people is followed by the real death of the homeland and razing it to the ground... Try, work hard, do whatever you want, but love your homeland”, stated the great figure. I would like to proudly announce that the rector of our university leads university life according to this idea. I would like to thank the Poti Theater for the performance”, said Tamar Lominadze.
At the end of the performance, the Georgian Technical University rector addressed the representatives of the Poti Theater - the director, actors, and the audience. He thanked the theater for interestingly presenting the life of Niko Nikoladze. As academician David Gurgenidze noted, the Georgian Technical University and the Gocha Chogovadze UNESCO University academic department have already been partners of the Fourth Tbilisi International Festival of Children’s and Youth Theaters for the second year.
“In the one-act play, four excellent actors presented the important details of the life and work of Great Niko Nikoladze so interestingly that each of us is impressed by their talent.
Fortunately, many famous figures were brought up in Georgia who glorified the name of our homeland in the world. Niko Nikoladze is outstanding among them. His contribution to the establishment of our university is great. When hearing the name of Niko Nikoladze, the first thing that comes to our mind is the reconstruction of the city of Poti by him, thus, staging this wonderful play in the Poti theater is symbolic.
I will take advantage of this opportunity and address the young people; as the great Niko Nikoladze said: “As long as I know myself, I have not had more than one wish, I have not worshiped anyone but one God... I loved you, I believed you, I served you, bad or well, as much as I could, as much as I knew.” Use the knowledge gained at the Georgian Technical University for your country, serve Georgia, believe in the motherland, and believe that your educators will always stand by your side. I wish you good luck”, said David Gurgenidze.
