GTU hosted a training course for Italian language teachers

The Georgian Technical University hosted a free training course for professional training of Italian language teachers – “Italian language teaching and assessment criteria”.

The training course was held at the University Center of Italian Language and Culture, in the hybrid auditorium of the Dante Alighieri Society-Tbilisi Committee. The project was implemented with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Georgia, The Georgian Technical University, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

The 2-day training course for the training of Italian language professors was led by expert trainer Silvia Scolaro, professor of the laboratory of the Faculty of Comparative Linguistics and Cultural Studies (ITALS) of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy).

According to Professor Nino Tsertsvadze, President of Dante Alighieri Society-Tbilisi Committee, during the training course, which was held in an interactive format using the modern cooperative method, the participants received comprehensive information on assessment principles and approaches, as well as teaching-learning methods and strategies.

The training course – “Italian Language Teaching and Evaluation Criteria”, conducted under the mentorship of Professor Silvia Scolaro, included laboratory training using the modern cooperative method. It implies interaction between the trainer and the participating teachers and the active involvement of the trainees. First of all, the training course aimed to determine the connection between teaching and the assessment system and, most importantly, to understand how assessment, in the metacognitive perspective of self-assessment, can be considered an integral part of teaching. Participants received comprehensive information about written and oral assessment systems, new methods, and typologies. They were explained the characteristics of the texts and the specifics of their use. Professor Scolaro also focused on the necessary and modern requirements for authenticity, relevance, and appropriateness in the midterm and final exams, as well as the testing process. We think the training course will be fruitful and effective for the trainees. We’d like to thank the Embassy of Italy in Georgia, the Georgian Technical University and its rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy for their support,” Nino Tsertsvadze noted.

The professors and teachers participating in the Italian language professional training course were awarded certificates from the ITALS laboratory of the Faculty of Comparative Linguistics and Cultural Studies of Ca’Foscari University of Venice.
