For students and academic staff, the deputy of the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, and academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili held a public lecture – “Aspects and challenges of circular economy in Georgia”.

Solomon Pavliashvili spoke about the main direction, such as the reforms carried out in Georgia in the direction of sustainable management of natural resources.

As the Deputy of the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture noted, based on the reforms carried out, the European Union actively supports Georgia. He emphasized the importance of the circular economy at the global and regional level, talked about the reasons for the transition to the circular economy and its advantages, the stages of the transition, and the main challenges, including - the ways of the transition to the circular economy of the European Union by 2030 and discussed the driving factors of the circular economy - the importance of developing local and regional strategies, expanded producers’ obligations and opportunities for the development of a circular economy, both in agriculture and in other sectors.

“There are many challenges in the circular economy; That is why the implementation of various projects and the involvement of donors in them is very important. Recently, a meeting was held on management and circular economy development issues, where we discussed the creation of a circular economy financing platform, which is one of the main challenges for our country. Waste processors need to be supported and encouraged since the transition from a linear economy to a green economy requires a lot of effort and financial resources. This is a risky economy, so we must find some support for it. In this direction, the role of students as future specialists is great,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.

The topic of the public lecture aroused great interest among the attendees. Students received detailed information on issues of interest to them.
