A scientific seminar “River-bed Processes and Environmental Protection” was held at the Tsotne Mirtskhulav Institute of Water Management of the Georgian Technical University as part of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Fridon Shatberashvili, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Honored Meliorator of the Republic.
The GTU Tsotne Mirtskhulava Institute of Water Management Director, Academician Givi Gavardashvili, opened the scientific seminar.
As the speaker noted, many international-level scientists worked at the institute, including academicians: Tsotne Mirtskhulava and Otar Natishvili.
According to Givi Gavardashvili, Professor Fridon Shatberashvili served his beloved work for 46 years, from 1952 until the end of his life.
“Pridon Shatberashvili’s scientific work included the study of the problems of drainage and land use of the Colchis Plain. He developed scientific methods for river regulation, including meandering, and hydraulic structures calculation. In Georgia, he was the first to develop a methodology for calculating the main melioration parameters for heavy clayey sedimentary wetland soils on the Colchis Plain.
He worked for a long time at the Georgian Scientific Research Institute of Hydrotechnics and Melioration. In 1986, Mr. Fridon, co-authored with Academician Otar Natishvili, published his last scientific work “Melioration Handbook”, which covers the entire spectrum of the field of Melioration.
He is the author of more than a hundred scientific papers and about ten monographs. The youth trained under his leadership are today the Doctors and Candidates of Sciences and successfully work in the field,” Givi Gavardashvili noted in his welcoming speech.
The scientific seminar “River-bed Processes and Environmental Protection” was attended by Fridon Shatberashvili’s family members, colleagues, researchers, and students of the Tsotne Mirtskhulava Institute of Water Management.
