Academician Davit Gurgenidze, the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, on behalf of the university community and students, congratulates the graduate, judoka Ilia Sulamandize, on winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
Ilia Sulamanidze, a bachelor of Industrial Engineering and Technology of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering of GTU, won the 2nd silver medal for Georgia at the Paris Olympics.
“Now the world’s attention and passion is directed towards the Paris Olympics. The worthy victory of our graduate, judoka Ilia Sulamanidze, is an immeasurable joy for the Georgian Technical University and our entire country! We congratulate Ilia on the Olympic silver, great international recognition, and the honorary title of Olympian! We believe that in the future, Ilia Sulamanidze will conquer new heights, dedicate many victories to our country, and give the fans unforgettable joy and happy moments,” noted the Rector Davit Gurgenidze.
Judoka Ilia Sulamandze competes in the 100 kg weight category. In the 1/4 final match of the Paris Olympics, Sulamanidze defeated the reigning Olympic champion Aaron Wolf with a vazar, moved to the semi-finals, and faced Swiss Daniel Aich, whom Sulamanidze defeated in 11 seconds with an ippon, and after that, won the silver medal in a relentless final match against Azerbaijan's Zelim Kotsoiev.
