At the Georgian Technical University, American scientists for engineering students and researchers held a public lecture seminar – „Exploring AI-Powered Careers: Preparing for Success in the Field of Engineering"
The public lecture, which was organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Informatics and Management Systems (IMS) and the International Accreditation Center of GTU, was led by scientists from the United States of America: Dr. Chi Joseph Qiao, an engineer from one of the largest companies in the world - Cambridge Mobile Telematics, Northeastern University Professor Wengong William Jin and Wentworth Institute of Technology Professor Jill Annette Macko.
The public lecture-seminar of American scientists, which was moderated in an interactive format by Professor Jill Annette Mako, was attended by undergraduate, Master's, and Doctoral students of GTU’s engineering departments, as well as visiting Georgia Tech University from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston, USA, and Masters and PhD students of Northeastern and Johns Hopkins Universities and Boston College.
The public lecture was attended by the Vice-Rector of GTU, Associate Professor Tamar Tsereteli, Director of the International Accreditation Center, Head of the English Language Program of Biomedical Engineering, Professor Irine Gotsiridze, Acting Dean of the IMS Faculty, Professor Taliko Zhvania, professors and teachers of engineering and technological departments, researchers, and free listeners.
At the lecture seminar, Professors Wengong William Jin and Jill Annette Mako, as well as Dr. Chi Joseph Qiao, reviewed the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on engineering fields and directions, based on practical cases, talked about the development and the prospects of engineering, and introduced students to a successful career advancement opportunities using artificial intelligence. In addition, in this context, the mentors discussed with Georgian and foreign youth the development of professional competencies and skills in rapidly changing technologies and innovations.
As the students of the Georgian Technical University note, the public lecture seminar of American scientists is interesting and relevant in many ways for the young people of any country who consider engineering and technology as their future profession. As the students note artificial intelligence, with its infinite possibilities, is making strong inroads into the engineering fields and significantly influencing their further development. As the students say, the material presented at the public lecture seminar on international practice and the latest scientific approaches will provide a guide to future engineers in understanding the mutual adaptation process of artificial intelligence and engineering fields.
After the public lecture seminar, the students of the US universities met the deputy rector of GTU in the field of science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, and the director of the University Center for International Accreditation, Professor Irine Gotsiridze. The students of the biomedical engineering educational program of the Faculty of Informatics and Management Systems of GTU introduced their American peers to the teaching-research and expert laboratories operating at the engineering faculties of the Georgian Technical University, including the unique laboratory complex of techniques and technologies named after Jiuli Shartava of the Faculty of IMS and the laboratory of engineering physics, teaching-research laboratories of civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, and mechanics of the Faculty of Construction, the latest laboratory base of the Faculty of Energy, etc. The students of the US universities also looked at the rare editions of the Niko Muskhelishvili University Library.
