Jubilee Meeting

On November 6, at GTU, was held the Jubilee meeting devoted to the 100th anniversary of academician David S. Tavkhelidze, the founder of the school of Georgian applied mechanical engineers, great scientist and citizen.
His Multi-field scientific and pedagogical activity is connected with different issues of machine building. His scientific theses, papers, monographs, patents and innovations were devoted to the problems of kinematics, kinetostatics, dynamics and synthesis of plain and spatial multi-link joint mechanisms. On the basis of utilization of main theoretical theses of descriptive geometry he elaborated an original method of construction of location of links of spatial mechanism with rotated, spherical and advanced-rotated kinematic pairs. By means of the above-mentioned method the different types of spatial and spherical mechanisms have been investigated. These investigations were the development and continuation of works of famous Soviet scientists – academicians I.I.Artobolevski, .G.Bruevich, V.V.Dobrovolski, etc. Together with other scientists Professor D.S.Tavkhelidze was at the head of extremely important scientific branch – “Investigation and study of spatial and spherical joint mechanisms” which nowadays is sufficiently developed and advanced.
The department of the Theory of Mechanisms and Machines which was created and developed under the guidance of Professor D.Tavkhelidze up today is leading scientific works in the field of theory of mechanisms and machines. Collaborators of this department issued different educational books, scientific papers and innovations. One the main results of Prof. D.Tavkhelidze’s work was upbringing the new generation of scientists.
