A protest rally of academic staff and students was held in the courtyard of the Georgian Technical University’s administrative building. The gathering, which opposes the government’s initiative on the possible merger of the Georgian Technical University with Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, was met by the Rector of GTU, Academician David Gurgenidze, Vice-Rectors, Professors Tamar Tsereteli and Tamar Lominadze, Head of Administration (Chancellor) Karlo Kopaliani, and President of the GTU Supervisory Board, Professor Zurab Gudavadze.
To discuss the current situation and these important issues in depth, the Rector decided to convene an expanded meeting, where academic circles discussed a unified action plan and an official position.
The professors, representatives of research institutes, and administrative staff present at the meeting decided to hold meetings in all structural units of the Georgian Technical University and discuss the current situation within the university. The positions and recommendations formed as a result of the discussions will be presented to the Academic Council and Senate at a later stage.
