The Georgian Technical University, together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Wageningen University (Netherlands), and the research foundation (WUR Partnership), as well as agricultural universities from CAREC countries, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding, at which the Georgian Technical University was represented by the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Chemical Technologies, Professor Liana Targamadze, and Professor of the same faculty, Nino Chkhartishvili, took place in Bishkek.

According to the Acting Dean, the partnership with ADB, WUR, and the CAREC Network of Agricultural Universities will ensure the integration of advanced international practices in Georgia, which will enable the Georgian Technical University to actively engage in solving CAREC regional challenges, especially in the direction of climate change, water resources management, and food security.

As Professor Liana Targamadze states, cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding is another important step taken in the strategic university development, aimed at strengthening research and educational capabilities.

According to her, the goal of the memorandum is to create a regional education, research, and innovation platform that will promote the development of modern agro-technologies, sustainable agriculture, and ecological innovations. Within the framework of the cooperation, the parties will share experience, implement joint research projects, and exchange programs for students and academic staff.

“Based on the Memorandum of Understanding, the Georgian Technical University, as a leading engineering, technical and technological higher school in our country and the South Caucasus region, becomes another important member of the regional network of CAREC countries, which provides an opportunity to actively engage in smart agriculture research, strengthen international cooperation and thus promote the creation and dissemination of innovations in the agricultural sector of Georgia. The purpose of our visit was also the active participation of the Georgian Technical University in the project funded by the Asian Development Bank - “Enhancing Green Skills Development within the CAREC Program”. The Georgian Technical University continues to actively participate in regional initiatives and creates the basis for Georgia to become an important hub in the CAREC space. It is noteworthy that within the framework of the ADB project, Wageningen University is preparing a capacity building program, in which the Georgian Technical University is one of the main partners,” states Liana Targamadze.
