“Today, when our graduates are successfully working in different countries of the world, this once again demonstrates that the difficulties of the 90s could not shake the academic foundation of the university. On the contrary, it further strengthened our professional activities and international authority. It is with devotion to these values, under the leadership of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, that we continue to develop the university and are proud that our graduates are ambassadors of the Georgian Technical University throughout the world,” said the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Lominadze, during a meeting with foreign graduates.

A group of ten foreign graduates from the 1990s returned to visit their alma mater. They got acquainted with its scientific and research achievements and toured the new infrastructure. The guests were met by the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Lominadze, professors, and students.

As the Vice-Rector noted, it is very important for the university to maintain contact with graduates. This is especially true for the generation that received education during the difficult historical period of the 1990s in Georgia.

“Today’s meeting is of particular importance. The 1990s were one of the most difficult periods for our country. The economic crisis created several arduous problems in the education system. Although Georgian scientists and professors were often not paid their salaries, they continued to work full-time and with dedication transferred knowledge to students. It was a time when the name of the university and the strong traditions established over decades allowed us to continue our work, which always went beyond professional duty. It was a responsibility to the country, the future generation, and science. Despite all the difficulties, the Georgian Technical University remained one of the highest-rated educational institutions in the region in those years.

The attitude of foreign students is especially valuable when assessing the scientific and academic experience of the Georgian Technical University. Despite the country’s economic and socio-political crisis, they showed great interest in continuing their studies at this university. This fact clearly confirms that the Georgian Technical University has never been just an educational institution, but has represented a space where professionalism, intellectual freedom, and the quality of teaching have overcome any difficulties. Such approaches have not only maintained the university’s international reputation but also created a long-term foundation for the success of its graduates in different countries of the world. Therefore, it can be said that the Georgian Technical University has maintained its commitment to universal values even in the most difficult challenges of the 90s, and that is why it remains one of the most important academic and scientific centers in the region to this day. And finally, I would like to thank Mr. Valeri Vacharadze, one of the heads of the Foreign Student Relations Service at GTU in the 1990s, for organizing this very interesting day,” said Tamar Lominadze.

During the meeting with the Vice-Rector, foreign graduates recalled their student years, spoke about the knowledge and experience they gained at the university, which played a significant role in their career advancement. Foreign graduates focused on the importance of continuing their relationship with the Georgian Technical University and expressed their desire to join the GTU alumni community, actively participate in alumni initiatives, and contribute to the development of the university. According to the graduates, it is a great honor and privilege for them to participate in activities that deepen the university’s international ties, develop educational programs, and strengthen the professional capabilities of the next generation.
