Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of the university community, expresses his condolences over the death of the Honored Architect of Georgia, Professor of the Georgian Technical University, Academician of the International Academy of Architecture, Honorary Member of the Archchamber of the Union of Architects of Georgia, Member of the Board and Ethics Council of the same Union - Giuli Gegelia and expresses his condolences to the Gegelia family, his relatives, the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design of the university, students and graduates, and the Union of Architects of Georgia.

As noted in the Rector's condolence letter, Professor Giuli Gegelia made a great contribution to the development of Georgian architecture and the professional education of the younger generation. His work will remain in the history of Georgia’s architectural heritage with numerous important projects, scientific and pedagogical achievements.

“We express our deep sorrow over the death of the Honored Architect of Georgia - Giuli Gegelia and extend our condolences to his family, relatives, the academic and scientific circles of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design of our university, students and graduates, the Union of Architects of Georgia - all those people with whom Giuli Gegelia’s many years of professional life were connected.

Giuli Gegelia’s work was closely connected with the Georgian Technical University, where, over the course of almost three decades of his work, he made a significant contribution to the development of architectural education and the formation of many generations of students as professionals.

Giuli Gegelia’s scientific and practical work, which was always distinguished by high professional standards, depth, and a constant pursuit of innovation, deserves special mention. Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia are adorned with numerous works realized with high skill by him, including: the residential microdistrict “Sanzona”, the residential microdistrict between Bakhtrioni and Ikalto streets, the Bakuriani International Youth Camp, the Art Gallery and the “Memory Club” in Senaki, the Ethnographic Museum in Nokalakevi, the reconstruction plan of the Rustaveli Theater, the house-workshop of the famous sculptor Elguja Amashukeli in Tbilisi, the City Court building and residential complexes in Poti, Tbilisi, Tskneti, Mtskheta, and many others.

Professor Giuli Gegelia authored 8 scientific papers on the reconstruction and restoration of the historical district of Tbilisi; numerous articles on the artistic assessment of the historical districts of Tbilisi, their adaptation, and the establishment of the relationship between old and modern developments; more than 100 projects and scientific-methodological and design studies of the object under construction have been implemented. He received many honorary awards for his fruitful and successful creative work.

Giuli Gegelia’s name and work will always remain in the history of the Georgian Technical University,” is stated in the rector’s condolence letter.
