On behalf of the university community, the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, expresses his condolences over the death of the distinguished teacher and researcher, Honored Energy Expert of Georgia, Cavalier of the Order of Honor Nugzar Uplisashvili, and extends his condolences to the family, colleagues, friends, and educators of the deceased.

“On behalf of the Georgian Technical University, we express our deep sorrow over the death of one of the outstanding scientists, engineers, and distinguished teachers, Doctor of Technical Sciences Nugzar Uplisashvili. Nugzar Uplisashvili’s many years of professional activity, outstanding contribution to the energy sector, and pedagogical activities are invaluable treasures for the academic and scientific history of our country. The results of his research and innovative approaches are still relevant today. Nugzar Uplisashvili’s contribution to the education and professional empowerment of future generations is particularly noteworthy. He had an outstanding pedagogical approach and ability to develop not only special knowledge in young people, but also professional ethics and dedication to his work. On behalf of the Georgian Technical University, we extend our condolences to Mr. Nugzar’s family, his friends, colleagues, and students,” is stated in the Georgian Technical University’s condolence message. 

For information: During 1974-1978 years, Nugzar Uplisashvili worked as a duty engineer at the Khrami HPP cascade, as a relay protection and automation engineer at the electrical laboratory. 

He served as a dispatcher and later senior dispatcher at the central dispatch service of “Sakmtavarenergo”. Between 1978 and 1980, he was Head of the Production and Technical Department for the Enguri HPP project. From 1980 to 1983, he worked in the State Inspectorate, then became Director of the Shaori-Tkibuli HPP cascade. In 1987, he was appointed Deputy Chief Engineer and Head of the Hydrotechnical Service at “Sakmtavarenergo”. Since 1988, he has served as Director of the Khrami HPP cascade. In 2000, he became Deputy General Director of AES-Khrami. From 2000 to 2004, he was First Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy of Georgia. 

From 2007 to 2014, he worked in the Electric Power Department of the National Energy Regulatory Commission of Georgia. He later served as an expert at “Audit-Shemetsneba”. Since 2014, he has been with the International Energy Corporation. He is also the author of several scientific works on energy, relay protection, and automation.
