Based on official data from the European Commission, the Georgian Technical University has been recognized as the most successful higher education and research institution in Georgia among the participating organizations of HORIZON EUROPE, the hugest framework program of the European Union for research and innovation.

According to the data presented on the European Commission Dashboard, the Georgian Technical University is the unconditional leader in the amount of grant funding received from Georgia for the implementation of scientific projects submitted to HORIZON EUROPE.

According to the European Commission Dashboard, the Georgian Technical University is distinguished by its multidisciplinary scientific and research activities, especially in engineering, technology, environmental protection, and energy.

As the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, notes, the grant funding obtained within the framework of HORIZON EUROPE allows the university to engage in international scientific collaborations, implement international research projects, develop research infrastructure, and strengthen cooperation with leading European universities and large research centers.

According to David Gurgenidze, the Georgian Technical University has recently obtained two new grant funding for the implementation of scientific projects within the framework of the HORIZON EUROPE program, which will be reflected in the European Commission’s analytics later.

“It is a great honor that, according to the grant funding obtained within the framework of the largest EU research and innovation program - HORIZON EUROPE, the Georgian Technical University has been named the most successful higher education and research institution in our country. This recognition reflects the exceptional professionalism of our university community, its dedication to science, and the strategic vision that the Georgian Technical University pursues - to have a healthy ambition and be a full-fledged participant in the European research and innovation ecosystem.

Participation in HORIZON EUROPE requires a scientific mind and the skills for effective competition and fruitful cooperation in the international scientific space. The fact that, according to the European Commission Dashboard, our university has received the highest grant funding from Georgia for the implementation of research projects shows that we are on the right track and continue to position ourselves in the right direction in the international scientific space. This allows us to engage in fundamental and multidisciplinary research on a much wider scale - in engineering, technology, environmental protection, and energy - in fields the Georgian Technical University has great scientific experience and potential.

It is noteworthy that in the recent past, two more scientific projects of the Georgian Technical University have received grant funding from HORIZON EUROPE, which will also be reflected in the European Commission’s analytical platform.

All such successes enrich the research portfolio of our university and deepen our integration into the European scientific space, bringing new opportunities for our students, researchers, and academic staff. This allows us to develop partnerships with leading European universities and the largest research centers, to implement innovative tasks in collaboration with them, to involve more in global scientific experiments, to participate in overcoming international challenges facing science, and most importantly, to further develop the university’s scientific infrastructure to provide the country with more young researchers and qualified specialists.

I would like to express my special gratitude to the Government of Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, and personally to Minister Aleksandre Tsuladze, for their support of scientific cooperation in the international arena. I would like to thank all the scientists, researchers, project managers, and administrative staff of the Georgian Technical University who spare no effort for the development of engineering, science, and technology and contribute the lion’s share to the sustainable development of Georgia,” notes Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze.

For information, HORIZON EUROPE is the largest research and innovation program of the European Union, which aims to integrate scientific research, promote sustainable development, and enhance technological progress in Europe and its partner countries.

Georgia’s participation in the program as an associated country has been fully implemented since 2021, which creates broad opportunities for Georgian scientists and educational and research institutions to position themselves on equal terms with EU member states.
