The conference was opened by the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze. The Rector congratulated the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia on the 47th anniversary of his enthronement and spoke about the contributions and merits of the nation’s spiritual father.

Academician David Gurgenidze thanked the guests, scientists, and public figures, who, with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude, laid the foundation for an important national cause at the Georgian Technical University and established the University Scientific Center of Theology.

The rector drew attention to the life and work of Holy Bishop Gabriel Kikodze and touched upon his research findings, which are a brilliant confirmation of the tolerant coexistence of science and faith.

In our current turbulent world, which equally concerns all nations and all states, including our country, with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Georgian society maintains tolerance and respects all confessions. However, the Orthodox Church is paramount for us, headed by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II for 47 years. Difficulties have always accompanied our country - from time immemorial to the present, and the recent history of Georgia is a clear confirmation of this. In times of trial, our Patriarch always stood by the nation, the future generation of Georgia with great love, an unwavering sense of compassion for his neighbor, his advanced scientific worldview, and immeasurable spirituality. Today, we can boldly say that on December 25th, 1977, a completely new era began in the history of the Orthodox Apostolic Church. The first years of the Patriarchate were particularly difficult due to the destruction of churches by Soviet repressions and the sharply reduced number of parishes. These were the most difficult years, which our country, with the prayers and blessings of the spiritual father of the nation, endured and grew stronger.

The conference, which the Georgian Technical University dedicates to the 47th anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness and Beatitude, with its theme “Holy Bishop Gabriel Kikodze - Public Figure, Philosopher, Psychologist, and Educator” in many ways echoes this most important date for our country. Gabriel Kikodze, who devotedly worked to restore the autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church and who preached the necessity of the full coexistence of science and faith with his scientific works, was canonized as a saint by the Holy Synod under the leadership of Ilia II in 1995. The work begun by Gabriel Kikodze - the international recognition of the autocephaly of the Georgian Church - was accomplished by His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

The great Ilia Chavchavadze pointed out the necessity of religious education and scientific persuasion. We believe that this process, which is still relevant today should be undertaken by universities. We believe that the conference is significant for our youth in this regard. The future generation should deeply understand the merits of these special sons of our country - Saint Gabriel Kikodze and Ilia II, who were distinguished by their service to God and the Fatherland, as well as in the scientific and educational fields. On behalf of the Georgian Technical University, we heartily congratulate the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia on the 47th anniversary of his enthronement and wish him long life and prosperity,” said Rector David Gurgenidze.

The Catholicos-Patriarch was congratulated on the 47th anniversary of his enthronement and addressed the audience the Metropolitan of Chiatura and Sachkhere Diocese, His Holiness Daniel, the Metropolitan of Manglisi and Tetritskaro, the Head of the Theological Educational and Scientific Center of the Technical University, His Holiness Anania, the Metropolitan of Chkondidi, Tsageri and Lentekhi Diocese, His Holiness Stephen, Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences Omar Gogiashvili, the Rector of St. Andrew’s Georgian University, Professor Irakli Brachuli, the abbot of the St. John the Theologian Cathedral in Tbilisi, the spiritual director of the St. Tamara Queen Convent in Shindisi, poet, philosopher and teacher, Archimandrite Adam (Akhaladze).

The speakers thanked the Georgian Technical University and its Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, for the multifaceted and interesting conference.

The second part of the conference was devoted to scientific works on the activities of the Holy Bishop Gabriel Kikodze. The head of the Research Center for the Development of Psychologists, psychologist Besik Bogveli, philologist, philosopher, and professor Levan Gigineishvili, professors of the Georgian Technical University - Lia Metreveli, Nana Bokuchava, Irma Khurtsia, head of the Scientific Center for Christian Anthropology and Psychology of the GTU Giorgi Andriadze, and other researchers presented the reports.
