GTU Swimming Team “Tonus” Won 7 Gold, 8 Silver, and 7 Bronze Medals in Winter Open Championship
The Georgian Technical University Swimming Pool “Water Sports Center - “Tonus” swimming team won 7 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals in the Georgian Winter Open Championship in short course (25m pool).

The Georgian Winter Open Swimming Championship was held at the Gldani Swimming Pool in Tbilisi, in which 190 leading athletes from the “Water Sports Center - Tonus”, Adjara, Rustavi, Gori, Kareli, Mtskheta, Gldani, Temka, Blacks, Elite, Aquacenter, Splash, and Neptune teams participated. The competition was held in the open age group, as well as for boys born in 2009-2010 and girls born in 2010-2011.

Archil Ioseliani, Head of the Sports Department of the Student Services, Culture and Sports Department of the Georgian Technical University, congratulates the “Tonus” swimming team on another victory and states that the Georgian Technical University creates all the conditions for a healthy lifestyle to become the norm among the youth. 

“We can safely say that each swim excited the audience until the last second. The program was very busy and interesting, the tournament turned out to be successful for our team. This championship once again showed us that swimming is alive, and developing, and most importantly, the Georgian Technical University, through the development of this and other sports, contributes to the introduction of a healthy lifestyle among young people. I congratulate each swimmer on their victory and wish them success,” says Archil Ioseliani.

The members of the “Tonus” team won the following awards:

  • Mamuka Shengelia - 2 silver, 2 bronze, 2 gold;
  • Sali Shcherbaeva - gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze;
  • Aleksi Jikidze - 1 gold, 2 silver;
  • Sandro Kviloria - 2 bronze;
  • Akaki Mghebrishvili - 3 gold;
  • Luka Martskvishvili - 1 silver, 2 bronze.
Also, in the 4X100 m. medley relay, the “Tonus” team (composed of Mamuka Shengelia, Saba Bendeliani, Sandro Kviloria, and Aleksi Jikidze) won silver medals, and in the 4X100 m. In the relay race (composed of Mamuka Shengelia, Saba Bendeliani, Sandro Kviloria, and Aleksi Jikidze) - gold medals.
