GTU Rector Meets with Director of International Aviation Training Center IKAROS
The rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, met with the director of the International Aviation Training Center IKAROS - Georgy Proumis, who is on a working visit to the university.

David Gurgenidze and Georgy Proumis exchanged information on the possibilities of implementing joint training and professional training courses licensed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in the aviation field and the prospects for future cooperation.

The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, introduced to Georgy Proumis the history of one of the oldest engineering-technological and humanitarian higher schools in Georgia and the South Caucasus region. As David Gurgenidze noted, the Bachelor’s Program in Aviation Engineering has been successfully implemented at the Faculty of Transportation Systems and Mechanical Engineering at Georgian Technical University. Thus, the University is ready to actively cooperate with the International Aviation Training Center IKAROS, if appropriate legal conditions are prepared.

“The Georgian Technical University is one of the oldest and largest in the South Caucasus region, has leading scientists, specialists in engineering, technology, and the humanities, promising young researchers and motivated students. Our scientific and academic staff actively cooperates with major international research organizations and centers such as CERN in Switzerland, KEK and J-Parc in Japan, FERMILAB in the USA, Willich Center, and the DAAD organization.

We have close contacts with leading universities in Germany, Italy, France, and other European countries. The university has excellent educational and scientific infrastructure and a material and technical base. The Bachelor’s degree program in Aviation Engineering has been renewed for the third year at the Faculty of Transportation Systems and Mechanical Engineering. We are ready to cooperate with the International Aviation Training Center IKAROS and offer interested persons, under the umbrella of IKAROS, training courses and modular exams in various areas licensed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA),” said Academician David Gurgenidze.

During the working visit of the Director of the International Aviation Training Center IKAROS, Georgy Proumis, the Faculty of Transportation Systems and Mechanical Engineering underwent an initial audit of compliance with EASA standards. In addition, to study the existing capabilities and legislative framework, the Dean of the Faculty of Transportation Systems and Mechanical Engineering, Professor Boris Githolendia, and Georgy Proumis met with the heads of the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia.

For your information, “IKAROS - International Aviation Training Center” is an aircraft technical training organization licensed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) through the Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation. The company has more than 120 licensed qualified trainers. Since its establishment, in the aviation sector, IKAROS has conducted: EASA training in 16 European countries, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America; more than 20,000 modular exams, and retrained more than 3,000 trainees.
