Georgian Technical University Fablab Is One of the Best Laboratories
Georgian Technical University Fablab continues to familiarize first-year students with the activities of the fabrication laboratory. The project, in the current academic year, since the beginning of the teaching-learning process at the university, has covered more than 1500 students.

The project of getting to know the activities of the fabrication laboratory has been going on for the second year, and as the head of the Fablab, Giorgi Frangishvili says, the university allows students to develop the skills.

“Fablab implements two interrelated projects. The first stage includes familiarization with the laboratory. For freshmen, this is the first step into science, so much so that in addition to getting to know the inventions of our students, which were visualized in Fablab, they will learn how to implement an idea.

Fablab has been implementing the project – “FREE - Student Entrepreneurship Program” for two years, which was first started in the educational space here, at the Georgian Technical University, in our laboratory. As part of this project, the university Fablab provides students with the knowledge to develop an idea into an initial prototype. Also, as a result of mastering the basics of sketching and modeling, the student takes the idea to a much higher level - from the final electronic version to the export of launch devices.

The project includes a 12-hour training and provides students with basic information in three directions: thinking technology - sketching and modeling, electronics programming, and practice workshop. The project is short-term, tailored to the interests of students, and is designed for quick, effective results.

All projects, including the “FREE - Student Entrepreneurship Program”, are result-oriented and include three hours of practical workshop work. Ultimately, by following all points of the project, students can develop their skills in many ways. In one sentence, our working process is as follows - Fablab for students, university for Fablab, and students. I want to thank the rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, and the administration for their attitude and support.

According to Saba Tsintsadze, a first-year student of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy of the Georgian Technical University, one day spent in Fablab helped him make a significant decision.

“It was an interesting day that made me make an important decision. Unfortunately, the direction of chemistry is not popular today, as much as it requires deep knowledge. When passing the Unified National Exams, I wrote the GTU Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy as the first number in the listing, because I knew I would get highly qualified knowledge here.

Also, I knew that the faculty operated laboratories corresponding to European standards. My goal is to work and research in the laboratory.

After getting acquainted with Fablab activities, I decided that this is where I would implement my ideas, allowing others to put theoretical knowledge into practice and visually see the result. I can confidently say that the Georgian Technical University has an excellent base for raising future professional staff, and Fablab is one of the best laboratories,” said Saba Tsintsadze.
