The athlete of Georgian Technical University, the two-time world and European champion among the youth, and the world champion among the young people - Valiko Ichkit - competed in Arm Wrestling at the Tbilisi Open Championship and won several victories.
The Georgian Technical University hosted the Tbilisi Open Championship in Arm Wrestling. The international tournament was organized by the Tbilisi Armwrestlers Federation and the Georgian Armwrestlers Union with the support of Tbilisi City Hall.
Armwrestler Valiko Ichkit of Georgian Technical University won a gold medal and a trophy in the 95 kg weight category in the right-hand fight, a silver medal in the left-hand fight, and silver in the absolute weight category in the right-hand fight at the Tbilisi Open Tournament.
A cash prize of 1800 GEL was given to the GTU athlete.
On behalf of the students and professors, the rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze, congratulated the famous arm wrestler Valiko Ichkit on his victory and wished him further success in the international arena.
According to the rector, the Georgian Technical University is ready to actively host the organization of international tournaments.
“We believe that the organization of similar international tournaments in the university space will greatly help the development of Georgian arm wrestling, as well as the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and this kind of sport among students, because this is the best way to reveal the abilities of young athletes, and in the future, the country will raise the international rank athletes,” said David Gurgenidze.
As Archil Ioseliani, the head of the sports department of the Student Services, Culture and Sports Department of GTU, noted, athletes from different countries, including students of the Georgian Technical University, participated in Arm Wrestling at the Tbilisi Open Championship.
According to Archil Ioseliani, participation in the Tbilisi Open Championship was especially important for newcomers, from the point of view that all the winning athletes would get the appropriate license and the right to participate in international Arm Wrestling tournaments.
The Tbilisi Open Championship in arm wrestling, hosted by Georgian Technical University, was held in individual championships according to the international Arm Wrestling rules and in all weight categories.
The tournament was attended by the leadership of the Tbilisi Armwrestlers Federation and Georgian Armwrestlers Union, famous athletes, and students.
