At the Georgian Technical University, under the initiative and patronage of the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, the Congress of the Mining Society of Georgia was held, which was attended by scientists, experts, private sector representatives, and guests, in total, more than 700 people.
The rector of the Georgian Technical University addressed the meeting of the Mining Society with a welcome speech. As academician David Gurgenidze stated, Mining Engineering is a field that greatly contributes to the revival of the country’s economy, and the mining community is capable of ensuring the well-being of the population under conditions of sustainable development.
“Mining engineering is a priority direction, the development of which is one of the foundations of the sustainable and growing economy of the country. Georgian Technical University is the only high school that provides specialists in the field, and our country produces highly qualified miners and geologists. For years, the private sector has openly talked about the lack of specialists, which was one of the painful issues. The socioeconomic and political crisis period that developed in the 90s had a sad impact on this field as well, although we could maintain and develop the faculty according to modern requirements. The contribution of Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, the head of the government, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, and the government to the revival and development of the faculty and, therefore, this much-needed branch in the country, is great. A clear confirmation of this is the fact, that this year, the number of students enrolled in the mining-geological faculty through Unified National Exams was unprecedentedly high.
I would like to thank the private sector representatives, especially the management of “RMG”. Together, we must develop a field that requires the joint efforts of researchers and the private sector to advance. This can be achieved against the background of the sharp rise of the economy in recent years. Today, the economy in our country is growing at an unprecedented rate, and we have all the means to achieve more success. More success guarantees a better life for our future generation.
At the congress of the mining society, it is impossible not to recollect the people who made a great contribution to the development of the mining business. Today, scientists and meritorious mountaineers are no longer with us - former presidents of the mining society Revaz Sturua, Levan Makharadze, and Guram Varshalomidze. The mining society was founded by the great scientist Archil Dzidziguri, whose path was continued by Boris Demetradze. Under his leadership, the community bears the name of Archil Dzidziguri. It is gratifying that the path followed by these scientists is successfully continued by their disciples. I would like to wish success to the mining community and future miners”, David Gurgenidze noted in his speech.
According to the president of the mining society, the industry is developing, growing, and getting stronger. As Professor Irakli Gujabidze noted: “The task of the Mining Society is to contribute to the development of the mining industry as much as possible. Connections with scientific circles, practitioners, and relevant government structures are increasing. Together we discuss solutions to problems in the field. We are ready to help the private sector in the introduction of modern technologies, training, and retraining of personnel. I would like to emphasize that each of our activities is carried out under the patronage of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, for which I would like to thank him”, said Irakli Gujabidze.
Director of Mining Institute - Nikoloz Chikhradze, Academician Levan Japaridze, Johnny Shubitidze - General Director of RMG, Mikhail Sotski - General Director of “Saknakshiri”, Professor Anzor Abshilava - Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Geology of GTU, Professor - Aleksandre Bezhanishvili and Nodar Foforadze, welcomed the delegates of the Mining Society Congress with a speech.
At the end of the event, a concert of student creative groups of the Georgian Technical University was held, in which the choreographic ensemble “Merani”, the folk group “Fesvebi”, and the girls’ vocal-instrumental ensemble “Kaldea” participated.
