GTU Professors and Students Held Meetings with Polish Scientists
Students, young researchers, and professors of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University held meetings with the professors of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of the Faculty of Computer Science, Information and Communication Technologies of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST, Poland) - Halina Kwashnitska and Ursula Markowska-Kachmar.

During their visit to the university, Polish scientists met with the dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, Professor Taliko Zhvania, the administration of the faculty, scientific-academic circles, and students of all three levels of education, who were introduced to the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, and talked about the educational programs of the Faculty of Computer Science, Information and Communication Technologies and the current studies. At the meetings, they focused on the scientific capabilities of the WUST Artificial Intelligence Department and introduced its priority research areas to colleagues and students.

In turn, Polish colleagues were told about the 67-year history, scientific experience, research directions, and international projects of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of GTU, and rich visual material was presented by the dean, heads of departments, and researchers.

As the head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of GTU, Professor Mariam Chkhaidze noted, the visit of scientists from the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology to the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University, especially the Department of Artificial Intelligence, is related to the strengthening of scientific and academic cooperation.

“The visit of famous WUST scientists to our university is dictated by the desire to strengthen and make scientific and academic cooperation with the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems much larger. Professors Halina Kwashnitska and Ursula Markowska-Kachmar are particularly interested in research collaboration with the Department of Artificial Intelligence of the Technical University.

Professor Kwashnitska founded the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in 2004 and headed it until 2021. With her direct participation and leadership, many international and EU research projects using artificial intelligence methods in medicine, image analysis, and natural language processing were implemented. Professor Markowska-Kachmar’s research interests include the relationship of artificial intelligence to deep neural networks and the development of their applications. Both scientists own several prestigious scientific awards and prizes and are the authors of many works.

Polish scientists met and talked with scientists, young researchers, students of artificial intelligence, and the adjacent departments of the Georgian Technical University.

It is worth noting that they gave a high assessment of both the educational and research infrastructure of our faculty, as well as the intellectual and scientific potential.

Several interesting meetings were held, during which we discussed the possibilities of implementing specific projects and ways of cooperation. Among them, negotiations on a research project on the use of artificial intelligence in medicine are in an active phase.

Scientists and students of the Biomedical Engineering Department of our faculty will be involved in this research project.

Also, we plan to connect archeology and artificial intelligence. The Department of Archeology of the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies and Social Sciences of our university will also participate in this research project”, announced Mariam Chkhaidze.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of GTU, Professor Taliko Zhvania, in the meetings with the professors of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, in addition to research collaboration, the possibilities of implementing joint educational projects with the Georgian Technical University were also discussed.

“During the meetings with professors Halina Kwashnitska and Ursula Markowska-Kachmar, we discussed academic cooperation, development of new educational programs and implementation of joint grant projects, as well as the need to activate the process of student and employee mobility and to conduct research with the participation of students in partnership with Polish colleagues.

In addition, we discussed the possibility of publishing joint publications in high-ranking international scientific journals. We think that all these components are very important for the sustainability of the educational process for both universities”, said Taliko Zhvania.

The professors of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST, Poland) visited the Georgian Technical University, the teaching and research laboratories of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, the University Center for Promoting Innovative Activities of Young Scientists and Students, the Student Engineering Academy and the Museum, they also got acquainted with the winning student projects and current researches in various competitions.
