Academician David Gurgenidze, rector of the Georgian Technical University, met with the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, His Excellency Darius Vitkauskas, and discussed the prospects of future cooperation with him.
Vice-rectors - Tamar Tsereteli and Tamar Lominadze, President of the University Supervisory Board - Zurab Gudavadze, Head of the University Center for Lithuanian Language, Culture and Education named after Prof. Vidas Kavaliuskas - Maria Sulaberidze and representatives of the university administration participated in the meeting.
Speaking with the ambassador, the rector discussed the possibilities of expanding the educational and scientific collaboration between the Georgian Technical University and Lithuanian higher education institutions, as well as the further development of the Lithuanian language, culture, and education university center.
According to Academician David Gurgenidze, Georgia and Lithuania are connected by a long, cordial friendship and a special partnership. The university has had close educational and scientific relations with Lithuanian universities for many years, confirmed by the successful operation of the University Center of Lithuanian Language, Culture, and Education.
“Our countries went through the decades of Soviet authoritarianism equally hard and endured the hard years of recent history. The aspiration of our people for freedom, struggle for independence, and the cordial friendship strengthened by a general vision of the future are priceless. Georgian Technical University has had close educational and scientific relations with Lithuanian universities for many years.
The center of Lithuanian language, culture, and education is successfully operating in our university space, which allows all interested students to learn the Lithuanian language, and its culture and participate in student exchange programs for free. The center is named after its founder, great friend, and scientist, Professor Vidas Kavaliuskas. Georgian Technical University forever immortalized his memory and posthumously awarded him the university’s highest honor - the Gold Medal.
In terms of strengthening the educational, scientific, and cultural ties between our university and Lithuanian higher education institutions and supporting the university center, the merit of the former Lithuanian ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Andrius Kalindra, was great.
For the support, on behalf of the students and professors of the university, I would like to thank both the governments of Georgia and the Republic of Lithuania, the first lady of Lithuania, Mrs. Diana Nausediene, who visited our university twice in recent years, where she held meetings with young people and teachers.
We are sure that the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, His Excellency Darius Vitkauskas, will also strongly love Georgia and strengthen the partnership between the Georgian Technical University and the Lithuanian universities by supporting several new joint projects”, said rector David Gurgenidze.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Darius Vitkauskas, thanked the Rector of the Georgian Technical University for his warm welcome and support of the University Center of Lithuanian Language, Culture and Education, and for promoting the deepening of relations between the educational and scientific circles of the two countries.
“We thank you for your special respect for the bilateral relationship between Georgia and Lithuania, for the important mission of the Lithuanian Language, Culture, and Education Center of the Georgian Technical University is engaged. As a result of your care, the friendship between the academic and scientific societies of the two countries, our youth is unwaveringly strengthened and acquires a much deeper meaning”, said Darius Vitkauskas.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of implementing the joint events that will be held both at the Georgian Technical University and the higher educational institutions of Lithuania during the 2024-2025 academic year.
