The chancellor of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Carlo Kopaliani, discussed the issues of deepening the future collaboration and scientific-academic partnership with the Georgian Technical University and the higher education institutions of Sichuan province, within the framework of his working visit to China.
The chancellor of the university visited three universities in Sichuan Province - University of Science and Engineering (Zigong), Southwest University of Petroleum (Chengdu), and Southwest University of Science and Technology (Mianyang) - by special invitation.
At a working meeting with the President of Sichuan Science and Engineering University - Professor Tuo Xianguo, and Vice President - Professor Luo Huibo, attended by representatives of the Chinese university administration, the Chancellor of GTU discussed the current and future issues related to the establishment of the Confucius Research Institute at the Georgian Technical University, as well as discussed the possibilities of launching exchange programs of students and academic staff between universities.
In a meeting with Southwest Petroleum University Vice President Prof. Fei Xianjun and International Relations Office Director Dai Lei, Professor Carlo Kopaliani discussed the issues of student mobility of master’s and doctoral educational programs at Southwest Petroleum University and Georgian Technical University.
In Mianning, the Chancellor of GTU met with the President of Southwest University of Science and Technology, Prof. Huang Qi, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Jia Bin, and the heads of various departments of the Chinese university.
The parties introduced to each other the activities of the universities’ faculties and successful projects, and also discussed mutually attractive areas for future cooperation, in addition, they focused on the possibilities of implementing joint projects and exchange programs.
As the chancellor of the Georgian Technical University, Carlo Kopaliani, noted, the working visit to the universities of the Sichuan province of China will be a prelude to fruitful future collaboration and implementation of interesting joint projects in many ways. According to him, it is important that shortly, the Confucius Research Institute will be established at the Georgian Technical University.
“The basis for establishing the Confucius Scientific Research Institute on our university base is the memorandum of understanding signed with Sichuan University of Science and Engineering.
The Confucius Institute will also function as the university center for Chinese language and culture studies and will cooperate fruitfully and actively with various scientific research institutes and university centers.
For the Georgian Technical University, it is important that our scientists and researchers, together with their Chinese colleagues, work in the direction of joint implementation of innovations. We are sure that the collaboration in education and science will bring positive results to both the Georgian Technical University and the universities of Sichuan, and will make the relations between Georgia and China much more multifaceted”, said the GTU Chancellor.
