The rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze, deans of faculties, professors, and students paid tribute to the memory of those who died for the territorial integrity of Georgia on the 31st anniversary of the tragic events that took place in Abkhazia on September 27th, 1993, and they covered the Heroes’ Memorial and the sculpture of the famous graduate, the national hero of Georgia, Jiuli Shartava with wreaths.

According to the rector of the Georgian Technical University, the day of the fall of Sukhumi remains the most difficult event in the history of Georgia even after 31 years, however, at the same time, it fills us with hope for the peaceful unification of Georgia.

“31 years have passed since those unfortunate events. Since then, this day has filled us with intense pain and immense sadness - reminds us of the fall of Sukhumi and the lost territories. On this tragic day, we honor the brave fighters who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of Georgia. Among them were the Georgian Technical University students, professors, and graduates.

Jiuli Shartava, the first national hero in the history of independent Georgia, is a famous graduate of our university. History immortalized the memory of the heroes.

We will never forget the human tragedies of the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people left facing trials in their own country. This day will never be erased from our memory.

During his speech before the world leaders at the meeting of the UN Security Council, the Prime Minister of Georgia voiced the cherished dream and common goal of every citizen of our country: “One of our most important national tasks is to restore the territorial integrity of Georgia, and of course, the 79th session of the UN General Assembly platform we must use to talk about this topic.

We addressed our sisters and brothers who live beyond the occupation line and our main appeal is that we want to live in a united, peaceful, developed Georgia and we must repeat this message loudly once again.

Our task is to restore the territorial integrity of Georgia peacefully, and the way in this direction, of course, goes through mutual forgiveness and reconciliation.

To complete this cherished goal, we must move step by step towards reconciliation, restoration of historical justice, and territorial unification of Georgia, far from Abkhazia, and together with the generations raised in Abkhazia, we must work, learn and raise worthy new generations to become an economically strong state”, noted the rector of the Georgian Technical University, David Gurgenidze.
