“Kartvela Cup 2024” – GTU Hosts International Sand Volleyball Competition

The International Sand Volleyball championship “EEVZA TOUR Kartvela Cup” between men, will be held in Tbilisi, from September 26-29.
The championship is organized by the Georgian National Volleyball Federation. The championship supporters are the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, Tbilisi City Hall, Georgian Technical University, Volleyball, and East European Zonal Association Confederation.
The host of the “Kartvela Cup” is the Georgian Technical University. The games will be organized outside the GTU administrative building.
Athletes from different European countries are being awaited for the tournament. Two men teams from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia, will compete for the “Kartvela Cup”, whose members are GTU players.
The qualifying games of the tournament will be held on September 26th.
As the head of sports service Archil Ioseliani notes, “International tournaments in sports contribute to the establishment of a healthy lifestyle and the promotion of specific sports among young people, as well as give them the experience of participating in international competitions.
It is significant and noteworthy that such sports activities and, in general, the sports life of the Georgian Technical University have the support of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze”.
For information, the “Kartvela Cup” has been held since 2009, and an anthem was specially created for the tournament, performed by the group “Fran”. Attendance at both, the tournament and the concert is free.
The tournament’s purpose is to immortalize the memory of Davit Kartvelishvili, the first Georgian libero and member of the Georgian youth volleyball team, and popularize sand volleyball in Georgia.
