GTU Future Architects Won the Competition Announced by „Quadrum Global Georgia“
A group of students from the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design of the Georgian Technical University, including Ana Chilingarashvili, Ekaterine Kakhidze, Nini Salukvadze, and Lika Bendeliani, won the competition announced by the company “Quadrum Global Georgia”.

In May of this year, “Quadrum Global Georgia” announced a competition for the rehabilitation of the park located near the former leather-shoe factory on Chavchavadze Avenue in Kutaisi, in which only all students or groups of students of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design were allowed to participate.

According to the professor of the International Academy of Architecture, doctor of architecture, invited associate professor of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design of GTU - Besarion Tatishvili, working on real projects for GTU students, and future architects, is not new, and the university has been carrying out similar projects for various municipalities and companies for many years.

“The number of participants in the competition was quite large. More than 70 students have registered. It is gratifying that the majority of students participating in the competition were second-year students. Therefore, from the very beginning, we considered the interim review consultation mandatory. According to the competition conditions, the company undertook to go to the project area together with the registered students, so that the authors could investigate, fill in the information, and photograph the area at their discretion, which would also be useful for the perfection of the project and for making a photomontage at the end.

We went to Kutaisi with a group of students to conduct fieldwork, where we met with the customers and representatives of the construction company.

After that, an interim inspection was held at the faculty, attended by Yuriy Vasilenko, a representative of the ordering organization. During the interim review, individual and group projects of 8 author groups were identified”, - stated Besarion Tatishvili.

The winning project was identified by the competition commission with the following composition: Nino Imnadze - architect, dean of the faculty; Giorgi Rusia - technical director of “Quadrum Global Georgia”; Teiko Lominadze - marketing director of "Quadrum Global Georgia"; Vasil Kobulia - professor; Besarion Tatishvili - Professor. The members of jury also included representatives of the Kutaisi City Hall and the architecture service of the municipality.

According to the dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design of GTU, the ordering company established a prize fund for the winning projects: first prize (realization project) - 3000 GEL, second prize - 1500 GEL, third prize - 1000 GEL.

“A shopping center is being built on the territory of the leather haberdashery factory in Kutaisi. Vasil Kobulia, an associate professor of our faculty, won this competition.

When the issue of improvement of the territory was on the agenda, at the next stage, the project was handed over to the Georgian Technical University, and a competition was announced, in which more than 70 students participated.

The three best works were identified. Among them, the first-place-winning project will be implemented. The foundation for construction will be laid in Kutaisi on September 26th. Each project is important and interesting for the faculty.

Our mission as teachers is to allow students to implement real projects, which is a great motivation for them. The Rector of the University, Academician David Gurgenidze, and the Chancellor, Professor Karlo Kopaliani support the faculty in this direction, for which I would like to thank them. I wish success to the faculty and students”, said Nino Imnadze.
