The Beginning of the Academic Year at the Georgian Technical University Was Celebrated with a Large-Scale Event
Georgian Technical University celebrated the start of the 2024-2025 academic year and the reception of the new, 102nd stream of freshmen with a large-scale event, in which all three levels of students participated.

The event, attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth Nodar Papukashvili, was opened by the rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze. The rector congratulated the students on starting of the new school year and wished them success. As David Gurgenidze noted in his speech, the number of students wanting to study at the GTU has increased even more this year, which indicates the university’s growing rating. “At the beginning of the new academic year, first of all, I congratulate the freshmen, who today took a step to start a new, significant stage of their lives. According to the Unified National Exams results we have almost 100% acceptance at all three levels of teaching at the university. It is gratifying that the interest of young people in the university’s Engineering-Technological and Humanitarian specialties is so high, which is the result of the purposeful teamwork of the administration and faculties. Thus, 95% of those enrolled chose the Georgian Technical University as the first university and made the appropriate choice. Another important piece of information among those enrolled in the university, 255 applicants got 50% grants, 44 – 70% grants, and 32 - 100% grants, which indicates that the average level of mathematics knowledge has risen significantly this year.

I congratulate all students, teachers, and colleagues, on the beginning of the new academic year. Scientists have to pave the way for the next generation of Georgia in the work of rebuilding our country.

In the new academic year, much pleasant news awaits us in the life of the university, among which I would like to highlight the rehabilitation project of the eighth educational building. Within the framework of the project, the Energy Development Fund will renovate the lobby, auditoriums, corridors, and educational infrastructure of the Faculty of Energy. Shortly, the infrastructure of the eighth building of the Georgian Technical University will fully respond to modern requirements. The most important is that during the implementation of internal rehabilitation works, the educational process will go smoothly.

In the era of rapid technological progress, the government of Georgia pays great attention to one of the advanced Engineering and Technological high schools in Transcaucasia, which successfully implements humanitarian programs as well. This is confirmed by the Foundation’s initiative to update the infrastructure of the Faculty of Energy, for which, on behalf of the university community and students, I thank the Government of Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth Giorgi Amilakhvari, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili, Energy Development Fund, and its head Jaba Khmaladze.

Dear young people, you have not made a mistake in your choice – Georgian Technical University is one of the successful Engineering higher schools in the South Caucasus, where thousands of students of different nationalities study in 170 educational programs. The university enters the new academic year with renewed energy. Once again, I congratulate the graduates of the 2023/2024 academic year with you and I wish them success”, - noted the Rector of the Georgian Technical University in his speech.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth congratulated the students of the Georgian Technical University on the start of the new academic year. Nodar Papukashvili wished success to the university, academic staff, and students. As the deputy minister noted in his speech, the Georgian Technical University is a forge of highly qualified personnel, whose graduates work productively in Georgia and beyond its borders. According to him, under the leadership of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, the university has achieved significant success.

Academic staff and students of GTU were congratulated on the start of the new academic year by the university graduate, famous composer and singer Jemal Sepiashvili. “I congratulate the university, the rector, teachers, and students, especially the freshmen, on the start of the new academic year. Good luck to you. It is an honor for me to open the musical part of the event and perform in front of you with the outstanding and favorite song of all generations “Hello, my City of Tbilisi”, Jemal Sepiashvili noted in his speech.

The event of the beginning of the new academic year and the welcoming of students - WELCOME TO GTU - was held in an open space with the support of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University and the organization of the administration. Entertainment spaces were organized, and university musical groups - Next Station and ethnic band “Mare” performed live in front of the students; DJ Lasha Sultanishvili, a graduate of GTU, continued the concert program and offered the best compositions to the young people. Also, by the decision of the rector, commemorative gift packages were given to the first-year students from the university.

The concert dedicated to the beginning of the academic year at GTU ended with a festive fireworks display.
