Gvantsa Davitaia, a third-year student of energy and electrical engineering at the Faculty of Energy of the Georgian Technical University, and her team participated in the event held within the framework of the university project – “Advancing Gender Diversity in Engineering - The Women’s Tech Hub” – “GTU Entrepreneurship Day” - became the winner of the innovative idea competition.
At the “Competition of Innovative Ideas”, Gvantsa Davitaia, with a group of students, submitted a business idea – “Pet Mall” – at the competition. The grant fund amounted to 600 dollars, from which 300 dollars won first place, 200 dollars – second place, and 100 dollars – third place.
As Gvantsa Davitaia, a student of the Faculty of Energy of GTU, and the leader of the winning team of the “Innovative Ideas Competition” held within the framework of “Women’s Tech Hub” noted, the goal of the multifunctional project presented together with the students of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering - Sopho Amaglobeli, Natia Beruashvili and Mariam Gugulashvili, was to simplify the care of four-legged friends. As she said, the success gained in the competition increases both the desire to implement the business idea and the motivation to find an investor.
“Our university, with the financing of the small grants program of the Democracy Commission of the US Embassy in Georgia, implements a multifaceted interesting project – “Women’s Tech Hub”, whose goal is to increase the role of women in engineering. It is important that within the framework of the project at the University, at the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering, various training courses were held for students in general management, marketing communications and PR technologies, graphic design, web technologies, and WordPress development, as well as practical entrepreneurship. In addition, a summary interactive seminar related to “Entrepreneurship Day” was held.
At the innovative idea competition, our group presented a business idea – a multifunctional PETMALL. Our goal was to simplify the care of our four-legged friends. In the mall, we have combined all services necessary for pets: a grooming salon, a veterinary clinic 24/7, emergency medical services, a veterinary pharmacy, a pet shop, and an animal hotel. We are glad our business idea received a high rating and first place. The victory gave us a strong motivation to look for an investor to help us realize this business idea. We thank the Georgian Technical University, the project – “Women’s Tech Hub”, the rector, Mr. Davit Gurgenidze, an active supporter of this project, and all organizers, for identifying opportunities and acquiring the necessary skills for business. We hope that similar projects, which increase students’ career development and future employment prospects, will be implemented in our university in the future as well”, said Gvantsa Davitaia.
The university project – “Strengthening gender diversity in Engineering – Women’s Tech Hub” is coordinated by the Office of Technology and Grant Projects of the Georgian Technical University. A university career platform was created under the auspices of “Women’s Tech Hub”, which takes care of attracting vacancies from engineering fields and employment of female engineers, creates new opportunities for career development for university students and graduates, and promotes the training of market-oriented and competitive specialists.
