The Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering was founded based on the resolutions of the Academic Council of the Georgian Technical University №: 01-05-04/75 of June 24, 2021, and The Representative Council (Senate) №: 01-06-02/37 of September 30, 2021, and it is formed by the Department of Transport and Mechanical Engineering based on the faculty, which has been functioning since 2006 – founded on the Faculty of Transport and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The history of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering began in 1928 when the Faculty of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering was first established and received the first stream of students in the same year. The Faculty of Transport was founded in 1959 when the Tbilisi Railway Transport Engineers Institute joined the Georgia Polytechnic Institute. Also, the auto-mechanic faculty was established and the admission of students began in 1971, and in 1978 it was transformed into the automobile-traffic faculty. In 1990, the Transport Institute was founded on the base of the road faculty and the Transport Faculty and since 1995 it has the name the Transport Faculty.
In 2006, the Faculty of Transport and the Faculties of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering were merged, and the Faculty of Transport and Mechanical Engineering, was founded on their base, it changed its name in 2021 to the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanics Engineering and currently operates under this name.
