According to the resolution #15 of the joint session of the Academic Board and the Senate of the Georgian Technical University (GTU) on December 16, 2013, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering was established at the Georgian Technical University. Both Georgian and English language educational programs are implemented at the faculty. Eight undergraduate programs are fully state funded.
The educational programs of the first level of higher education (bachelor's degree) are: agricultural technologies, food technology, forestry, agroengineering, animal husbandry, soil and water resources engineering, agricultural technologies, agronomy, viticulture-enology.
The educational programs of the second level of higher education (master's degree) are: agricultural technologies, food technologies, organic agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, viticulture and winemaking (Georgian and English), medicinal plant cultivation technology, agricultural hydromelioration.
The educational programs of the third level of higher education (doctorate) are: agricultural technologies, food technologies, forestry, agroengineering, agricultural economics, animal husbandry.
In 2019, with the participation of the Georgian Technical University and the French University René-1 (Universite de RENNES 1), a double-diploma bachelor's program (production management in the dairy industry) was implemented. The program includes 60 credit modules and lectures are held in English. Together with their French colleagues, Georgian professors and teachers conduct the training course, and the students go through all the components in the learning process, which their French peers do. After completing this module, they receive two diplomas - from the French university René 1 and GTU.
The faculty also operates a two-degree bachelor's program in viticulture-enology at the University of Milan. A student must complete 60 credits in Italy to obtain two diplomas. Knowledge of the Italian language is required to participate in this program.
From the year of 2021, the Master's program of GTU - Viticulture and Winemaking became a member of the European equivalent master's program - EMAVE consortium, which includes the universities of France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Italy and Switzerland. Students of this program have a unique opportunity to get two Georgian and French diplomas. Students go to any of the consortium member countries for one year, which gives them the opportunity to receive a European education in the field of viticulture and winemaking and to prepare a master's thesis.
At the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering of the Georgian Technical University, there is an "Agroecological Educational-Scientific-Diagnostic Laboratory", which successfully passed the requirements of the national standard established by the Unified National Accreditation Body - Accreditation Center and was awarded the standard: ISO/IEC 17025:2010.
In accordance with the international requirements of the educational programs, the building is equipped with 32 different teaching-scientific laboratories and 28 auditoriums.
In the Department of Agricultural Engineering, the hydraulics laboratory is named after Professor Irakli Kruashvili, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and the laboratory of the Department of Food Technology is named after Professor Vakhtang Ugrekhelidze.
The chemistry-biology Saturday school functions at the faculty, the purpose of which is to popularize natural sciences and support students interested in chemistry-biology through cognitive-popular practical studies.
The faculty has four departments: agroengineering, viticulture and enology, food department and agrarian technology department.
Faculty students and academic staff participate in exchange programs in various European universities within the framework of "Erasmus +" mobility.
In total, 68 academic staff are serving the professional education of students at the faculty.
