From May 25, 2016, the Faculty of Law and International Relations was established at Georgian Technical University, the goal of which was to establish another competitive, strong educational and scientific center in the educational environment of Georgia, so that students could receive a full-fledged and modern education.

The Faculty was built on such a strong foundation as the Department of Social Sciences, already the Department of Politics and International Relations, and the Department of Law.

It should be noted that the Department of Politics and International Relations was established in 2006 on the basis of political science, international relations and diplomacy, history and culture of Georgia, philosophy and public relations and since 2013 functioned as the Department of Social Sciences, later the Department of Politics and International Relations, headed by Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Tamar Kiknadze.

The history of the Department of Law began with the formation of the Department of Patent Studies in 1978. Over time, the Department changed, expanded, and became a Department of Law, which had to compete with other higher education institutions.

Since its establishment, the department has been led by eminent scientists and professors in the field of law: Mindia Ugrekhelidze, Ketevan Kokrashvili, Zaza Rukhadze, Jemal Ghakhokidze and Irakli Gabisonia.

From January 23, 2017, doctor of law, professor, former member of the Academic Council Irakli Gabisonia was elected as the first dean of the Faculty of Law and International Relations.

The Faculty of Law and International Relations has several teaching laboratories:

- Forensics laboratory, which is equipped with modern technical means and serves the process of formation and teaching of professional skills for students. In the same laboratory, a 4-level program of professional education is implemented.

The Forensics Laboratory of the Faculty of Law and International Relations of the Technical University of Georgia is a precedent in the form of a laboratory on the educational base and a guarantee that the faculty will train professional staff.

- The practical law clinic helps students to develop the professional skills of a lawyer. Under the supervision of professors and practicing lawyers, students conduct free legal consultations for socially vulnerable groups.

- The Public Law Laboratory, headed by Professor Zurab Melkadze, is unique with its exhibits and library, where you can see the constitutions, legal acts and symbols of countries of more than fifty countries of the world. Among them are the old Georgian ecclesiastical monuments, the exposition depicting the first and active Republic of Georgia.

The faculty has a Russian-language study sector, where representatives of ethnic minorities and students from neighboring countries receive education, as well as Georgian language courses, where students can prepare in the Georgian language and receive education in the Georgian language.
