To commemorate 100 years since the foundation of the iconic design school, eight IDS students were selected through a series of internal design competitions and traveled to Germany. The trip, a unique learning opportunity, started with a visit to the Berlin offices of a leading German architectural firm, Gewers Kühn und Kühn (GKK Architektur und Staedtebau GmbH), principals of which introduced the guests to their impressive international portfolio and discussed the current state of German architecture and design. The IDS group then visited  the birthplace of the Bauhaus school - the  Thuringian city of Weimar with its newly-built Bauhaus museum, and traveled to Dessau where it had an extensive guided tour of the famous Bauhaus  edifices, explored Berlin and its surroundings, including Potsdam's renowned Einstein Tower by Erich Mendelsohn, and finally flew to Munich, where it was hosted by a longtime friend and prime sponsor of the IDS - Hon. Prof. Claus Hipp, the owner of the eponymous baby nutrition brand - himself a fine painter. The unforgettable trip was held to boost the IDS students' creative potential and acquaint them with seminal examples of the modernist heritage.
