The Department of Chemistry was established in 2017. The department is headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Maia Tsintsadze. Address: room 200, II building, phone: 0322 77 11 11 (7365), e-mail: m.tsintsadze@gtu.ge

7 professors, 14 associate professors, 8 assistant professors work in the department.

The relevant directions of the department are:

Academician G. Tsintsadze's role is very important in the history of the department. He belongs to that generation of Georgian elite, who boldly entered the scientific-research arena in the fifties of the last century, and since then, he devoted himself to the advancement and development of science, to the education and formation of highly competent engineering personnel. G. Tsintsadze paid a lot of attention to the issues of introducing new technologies in the industry of Georgia, he participated in the development of the technology for obtaining stibium sulfide and the process of introducing this technology in the Racha Samtochemical Plant. G. Tsintsadze developed a modified method for determining gold and palladium in the ore of the Madneuli deposit. His work on the sorption behavior of indium and cadmium on rhodanide forms of the parent anionites should also be mentioned here. As a result of these studies, the prerequisites for the separation and use of a number of rare metals were created.

The department carries out the synthesis of a number of different biologically active substances and complex compounds, the research of their physico-chemical properties and the determination of biological activity. Work continues on copper, iron, zinc, cadmium, cobalt, nickel, gallium, lead, tin, lanthanoids, germanium, silicon, manganese and other rare and transition metals and various organic ligands (amines, amides, hydrazides, hydrazones, diamides, heterocyclic condensed nuclear ligands) to obtain coordination compounds and to study their physico-chemical properties. The biological properties of the synthesized coordination compounds are being studied, in particular, the clarification of their role in the treatment of various diseases (tuberculosis, cardiovascular and cancer diseases, etc.)

Using the multiple linear regression method, a methodology for determining the concentration of components in two- and three-component mixtures with the desired accuracy, without their preliminary removal, has been developed. Among the scientific topics of the department, it is worth noting the works related to the study of amorphous materials and coatings. Work continues in the direction of obtaining new types of minimaterials and studying the nature of self-weight in suspensions.

Synthesis of synthetic dyes based on aromatic and heteroaromatic compounds, study of their properties and use are being carried out in the department.

Researches are successfully carried out in the direction of synthesis and use of new open-chain and macrocyclic azomethine compounds and luminophore dyes based on them. It is also important to study amorphous materials and coatings.

The scientific theme "Protection of steel constructions from corrosion" echoes the goals of the energy policy of Georgia - sustainable development, competitiveness and regularity of shipping. In order to ensure the safety of gas and oil pipeline systems, a modern system of single-layer protective coatings has been created for the world-recognized "Direct" installation technology, which increases the service life of pipelines by 10 times. For household appliances, new decorative low-temperature single-layer non-priming covers have been created, and for chemical reactors - an acid-alkaline multi-profile complex and their production Profitable Technology (Prof. I. Berdzenishvili).

Work is being carried out in the direction of improving the methodology of teaching chemistry and studying the history of chemistry.

Taking into account modern requirements, the employees of the department improved and created new manuals, auxiliary methodical material; Virtual programs adapted to face-to-face, hybrid and distance learning conditions have been developed and introduced.

The department has close ties with various international educational scientific centers: the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences named after N.Kurnakov, Kyiv T. Shevchenko State University, Baku State University, with the Department of Organic Chemistry of the D. Mendeleev Academy of Chemical Technology, the Department of Intermediate Products and Dyes of the same Academy, the Moscow Institute of Organic Intermediate Products and Scientific Research, the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Baku Oil Institute, and the Institute of Dyes in Pardubice, Czech Republic.

The academic staff of the department actively participates in international educational and scientific conferences and symposia. In 2018, under the auspices of the department, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, doctor of chemical sciences, professor G. Scientific-methodological conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Tsintsadze's birth. Employees of Georgian and foreign scientific centers and universities, teachers of general education schools took an active part in the work of the conference.
