Today, special attention is paid to the improvement of the teaching methods of these or those disciplines. This is due to the fact that in the educational space and learning process of higher education institutions, new information systems and technologies have started to be used more often and widely and their implementation in the learning process. At the same time, the existing laboratories in higher education institutions are being retooled and equipped with new, modern equipment and devices. In addition, new laboratories are being created, virtual laboratories for distance and not only distance learning. In accordance with modern requirements, laboratories are created even for such disciplines where previously only lectures and practical training were conducted. In recent years, such steps have been taken at the Georgian Technical University.

The academic board of the Georgian Technical University with the resolution No. 1029 of December 16, 2013 and the decision of the Senate session No. 42 of December 20, 2013 with the decision No. 3 of the Faculty of Civil Engineering established a separate structural unit "Engineering Mechanics" teaching-scientific laboratory named after the state prize laureate Professor Aleksi Gorgidze was granted.
The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment manufactured in the Republic of Poland. The aim and purpose of the laboratory is for the undergraduates to acquire extensive laboratory experience, to master a wide range of modern laboratory methods, to acquire the ability to solve problems based on the principle of group work.

The laboratory in mechanics should be considered as a means to enable undergraduates to solve real engineering problems.

Theoretical mechanics is one of the most important physics-mathematical disciplines, which is taught not only in higher education institutions, but also in professional institutions. Many theoretical and engineering disciplines are based on the laws of theoretical mechanics, such as durability of materials, theory of machines and mechanisms, machine parts, theory of elasticity, internal and external ballistics, and many others.
In the future, it is expected to conduct laboratory practices with the help of personal computers and to install a new automated laboratory complex, which will contribute to the improvement of the teaching and learning process.
