The Department is headed by Professor Lia Kakhiani 

The goal of the Department is to: train specialists with higher education, who will have the ability to access scientific-technical and social-political problems of the modern world, the ability to use new methods of building design and business habits in engineering practice; to teach students the basics of emergency risk engineering in the process of planning buildings and structures, management of economic objects in emergency situations, organization of security and engineering protection of critical infrastructure objects, measures of engineering assurance of prevention of consequences of emergency situations and liquidation works, the rules of behavior and action in emergency situations; also - methods of assessing the reliability of buildings, effective use of seismic protection measures, types of construction systems of high-rise buildings, including skyscrapers, and calculation methods in the field of construction engineering;     

• To teach students who have the ability to design buildings using modern methods and standards.
• Reconstruction and fortification of buildings.
• Improvement of existing calculation methods based on scientific studies and designing new constructions using modern technologies.
• Ability to access European standards in designing buildings and structural elements.
• Ability to assess the reliability of buildings.
• Ability to use effective seismic protection measures in buildings for specifically given seismic area.

Main strategy and objectives of the Department:

To train a highly qualified bachelor in construction engineering, master of construction engineering and scientist-researcher in the field of construction.
