The Department is headed by Professor Tariel Kvitsiani

In accordance with modern standards, to provide fundamental training to bachelors, masters, and doctoral students according to study courses that are envisaged for the faculties of construction, transport, energy, agro-engineering, and computer science.

Development of the Department is directly related to its competitive, multi-disciplinary courses taught by high-level professors. 

• Theoretical mechanics, durability of materials, analytical mechanics, engineering mechanics, mechanics of materials, engineering statics, applied mechanics, construction mechanics, theory of plasticity, stability of buildings - are the main disciplines that must be trained and studied in depth for practically all of the specialties of faculties listed above.
• All directions of modern engineering research work (the theory of elasticity, theory of plasticity, fluid mechanics, stability of buildings), on which the employees of the Department work, make the Department competitive not only within Georgia, but also on the international level.

Goals of the Department during the following academic years

The main goal of the Department is to raise the quality of educational and scientific work on the basis of the existing scientific-pedagogical composition.

Main strategy and objectives of the Department

The strategy and objectives of the Department are based on the seven-year strategic plan of the Georgian Technical University, the main tasks of which are:

1. To introduce 100% multimedia techniques while delivering lectures.
2. To increase the number of students with whom professors of the Department work individually.
3. To create new or improve existing training courses in all fields, where the disciplines of the Department are taught.
4. To reduce the average age of professors to 55-60 years.
5. To raise qualifications of the staff as needed.
6. To strengthen individual work with doctoral and master's students in order to create such conditions for them to wish to continue teaching in the Department.
7. To diversify scientific work of professors and to involve all current and invited employees in research scientific topics.
8. To increase the percentage of citation of published scientific works up to 50% for all employees.
9. To increase the quality of papers submitted for presentation at scientific conferences of students.
