Department of Mining Technology. The Department of Mining Technologies was created in 2006 on the basis of the union of mining profile cathedras. The head of the department, from its foundation until now, is the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. I. Gujabidze.

Currently, the Department of Mining Technologies includes former cathedras of the mining profile as directions:

Department of mineral deposit processing. On January 16, 1922, the foundation of the polytechnic faculty in Tbilisi State University laid the foundation for 9 engineering specialties, among them was the mining-exploitation specialty. Until 1938, the cathedra was called the Cathedra of Mining Arts. In 2006, the cathedra was merged with other cathedras of the mining profile into the Department of Mining Technologies.

The permanent head of the department, from its establishment until 1950, was a true member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, an honored worker of science and technology, a doctor of technical sciences, Professor G. Tsulukidze.

Acad.: After G. Tsulukidze's death, in 1950-60, the department was managed by Assoc.: B. Abesadze.

In 1961, after B. Abesadze's death, the Department of Tunneling-Reinforcement and Explosive Works, which was founded in 1938 and was permanently managed by Prof. R. Jikia, was merged with the Department of Mineral Deposit Processing.

In 1974, Prof. E. Ciskarishvili became the head of the department; he created original textbooks for mining students. He is the author of 5 copyright certificates and many publications. In the magazines and newspapers of the Republic, he systematically published publications on the topical issues of the public life of the country.

Prof.: E. Ciskarishvili left the post of the head of the department in 1984 due to his age. In the same year, Prof. B. Demetradze was elected as the head of the department.

From 2002 to 2007, the cathedra was headed by Prof. I. Gujabidze.

Mining machines and equipment. The history of the department begins in 1930, when the Department of Mining Mechanics was established in the institute. Its first supervisor was Prof. I. Companion. Subsequently, in connection with various reorganizations, the name of the department was changed many times. In 1937, two departments were created on the basis of the Mining Mechanics Department: Mining Machines and Transport (Department Head Professor N. Tkemaladze) and Mining Mechanics (Department Head Docent I. Khukhunaishvili).

Prof.: N. Tkemaladze in 1937-1968 he was the head of the Department of Mining Machines and Mine Transport of the State Polytechnic Institute, in 1950-1959 - Dean of the Mining Faculty, 1959-1962 - Vice Chancellor.

In 1952, the Department of Mining Mechanics and Mineral Enrichment (Cathedraman of the Department Docent I. Khukhunaishvili) and Mining Electromechanics was created. (Cathedraman, Professor K. Baramidze). In 1968, on the basis of the union of several departments, in particular, mining machines and transport, mining mechanics and mineral enrichment departments, the mining machines, mine stationary installations and transport department was formed, by academician A. Dzidziguri.

After A. Dzidziguri was transferred to the rector of the Polytechnic Institute of Georgia, in 1973, Professor V. Muskhelishvili. For years, he led the scientific-pedagogical activities of the department.

Famous scientists worked at the department: Academician L. Makharadze, Prof. T. Gochitashvili, Prof. A. Kutateladze and others.

From 1989 to 2007, the cathedra (later the department) was headed by Professor A. Bezhanishvili.

The Cathedra of Mineral Enrichment was established in 1931 on the basis of the Cathedra of Mining Arts by Professor G. On the initiative of Tsulukidze. The department underwent several reorganizations in the following years, finally being established in 1968, when the Department of Mining Mechanics and Beneficiation was separated from the Department of Mineral Beneficiation. During all these years, the department was headed by Prof. Khukhunaishvili.

After Prof.: I. Khukhunaishvili's death, the cathedra was headed by Prof. T. Mkheidze.

In 1978, Prof. R. Sturua was appointed as the head of the department.

Professor R. Sturua was a versatile person. In recent years, he has published several collections of poems, which have earned the great love of Georgian readers. For these collections, he was awarded the Galaktion Tabidze and Akaki Tsereteli prizes.

Prof. R. Sturua was awarded with the Order of Honor for his outstanding contribution to the development of technical science and education of highly qualified personnel in Georgia.

In 1990-2007, the head of the Department of Mineral Enrichment was Prof. D. Talakhadze. The direction of his scientific work is solid mineral processing technologies.

In 1953, the Cathedra of "Electrification and Automation of Mining Works" was established at the Georgian Technical University. Its founder and first head was Professor Konstantine (Kote) Baramidze, a member-correspondent of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, an honored worker of science and technology, a doctor of technical sciences. Since 1944, his activities have been completely connected with the Polytechnic Institute of Georgia. 1953-1973 He was the governor and vice-rector of the department created by himself in scientific and educational fields.

The best students of Prof. Kote Baramidze worked at the department: Prof. Anzor Futianidze, Prof. Garbert Butskhrikidze, Prof. Davit Pataraia, Assoc. Besarion Geleishvili, Assoc. Teimuraz Javakhishvili, Assoc. Roin Enageli, teacher M. Oniani et al.

In 1973-1991, the head of the department was Prof. A. Fesvianidze. One of the founders and prominent representatives of the Georgian School of Mining Electromechanics.

Famous scientists worked at the department for years: Prof. G. Butskhrikidze, Assoc. Iv. Rukhadze, Assoc. L. Asatiani, Assoc. N. Arudashvili, Prof. T. Javakhishvili, Prof. d. It's small, Prof. R. Enageli; Docents: B. Geleishvili, B. Russia, G. Shotadze, A. Bobokhidze, M. Tsereteli, M. Oniani; Senior teachers S. Abesadze, R. Davitashvili; Support staff: N. Beridze, J. Bregadze, N. Bregadze, N. Rukhadze, N. Bibilashvili, O. Rcheulishvili, T. Butliashvili.

In 1991, the "Mining Works Electrification and Automation" department was divided into two parts and the "Mining Electromechanics" and "Mining Production Automation" departments were established.

The founder of the Department of Mining Electromechanics and its head until 2006 was Prof. G. Gogia. Today, famous scientists are working in this direction: Prof. V. Zviadauri, Prof.: M. Tsotkhalashvili, Asst. Prof. N. Makharashvili and others.

The cathedra of automation of mining production was established in 1992, when it was allocated to the member-correspondent of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, Professor K. Baramidze founded "Mining Electromechanics and Automation" cathedra in 1953. Since 1992, the main areas of scientific research of the department are: mathematical modeling of technological processes of mineral enrichment, optimization and development of automatic control methods and systems; Rope systems, brakes and automation of ropeways and hoisting machines. Development of computer modeling and calculation method of cableway rope system; Railway management systems.

The founder and head of the department in 1992-2007 was a doctor of technical sciences, prof.: G. Butskhrikidze. He laid the foundation for the creation of a new scientific direction in Georgia - the automation of the enrichment of minerals, and for the following years to be based on a solid theoretical foundation.

Since 2007, the cathedra and further direction have been headed by Prof. R. Enagel.

The material-technical base of the department is represented by laboratory equipment located in two teaching laboratories and an underground shaft-laboratory.

The history of the department of construction of underground structures and shafts begins in 1938. This year, the cathedra of tunneling-reinforcement and explosive works was established. In 1938-1961, its head was Prof. R. Jikia. In 1961, the cathedra was merged with the cathedra of processing mineral deposits. In 1999, it was again established as an independent cathedra under the name "Construction of underground structures and shafts".
