Scientists and researchers of the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies and Social Sciences of the Georgian Technical University are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of History of Georgia and History of Georgian Culture.

It is regrettable that on the mentioned date we meet its founder, after the death of Acad. Nana Khazaradze. Today and in the future, the memory of a great scientist, an extraordinary lady, whose name is associated with the years of tireless work of the creation and subsequent leadership of the cathedra and department, is immortal. As Mrs. Khazaradze noted, "Despite the most difficult political, economic, social, demographic, and cultural processes taking place in independent Georgia since 1981, historical science is developing successfully", in which the Department of Georgian History and the History of Georgian Culture of the Georgian Technical University is an active participant, and later the Department of Archeology and History of Georgia department.

In 1990, on the initiative of the professor-teachers' group of the Polytechnic Institute of Georgia, the Department of History of Georgia and the History of Georgian Culture was established at the Humanities-Technical Faculty. An important center of the history of Georgian culture was created in the well-known engineering higher education institution of Georgia.

Under the leadership of Professor Nana Khazaradze, the department gathered well-known specialists in the field of Georgian history of the 90s, professors: Otar Abutidze, Vili Asatiani, Nino Akhvlediani, Tamaz Beradze, Karlo Topuria, Temur Chigoshvili, Nikoloz Chubinishvili, Guram Chkhaidze, Giuli Dzidziguri, Darejan Mgeladze, Givi Inanishvili, with their knowledge and experience, the foundation was laid for the first composition of the department, which over the years, with their pedagogical creative work, love and hard work, were able to honor their debt in the education and training of young cadres who are loaded with knowledge of the nation.

The department trained bachelors, masters and doctors of two specialties - technical experts of antiquities (artists, material scientists) and conflictologists (conflict managers, international and regional conflict resolution specialists).  Within the walls of the university, they received high scientific qualifications, and today the scientific staff of the department work in the Museum of Georgia, the Museum of Art and the archaeological-ethnographic museums in the regional centers - Nino Kalandadze, Mamuka Kapianidze, Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Teimuraz arjanadze, Inga Karaia, Lela Kakashvili, Bidzina Cholokashvili.

The curriculum of the Department of "Archaeology and History of Georgia" operating at the Georgia Technical University, taking into account the possibilities of the university's unique research laboratory-experimental technical base, creates all the conditions for the education of personnel equipped with modern achievements of humanities and natural and technical sciences.

The department envisages the special cooperation of archaeological science with state scientific institutions, based on the common national interests of training and employment of professional personnel, carries out joint educational and scientific activities together with the Janashia National Museum, Sh. Amiranashvili Georgian Art Museum, F. Tavadze Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, A. Apakidze Institute of Archaeology.

In 2014, the three-level educational programs of "Archaeology" were prepared at the Faculty of Business Engineering of the Georgian Technical University. Academician Nana Khazaradze and the authors involved in the program, professional academic staff, created a program based on the principle of educating specialists with high responsibility and interdisciplinary knowledge in one of the national and priority fields of Georgian science, archaeology, which is implemented with the participation of specialists in archeology and Georgian history (professors: Tamar Khokhobashvili , Manana Abutidze, Khatuna Todadze, Maya Kutateladze, Givi Inanishvili, Vazha Sadradze, Merab Dzneladze).

The program envisages its protection as a result of research of cultural heritage, adherence to the ethical policy of managing the research process, preservation and condition of the discovered monument, knowledge of restoration-conservation, multi-profile analytical technological methods, experience of performing laboratory experiments, management of the educational-research process, participation and leadership in a stationary archaeological expedition, implementation of international archaeological complex programs.

On the initiative of the department, the establishment of an international scientific conference has been determined in the university, which will be associated with the name of the great scientist Nana Khazaradze. The education of young researchers, future archaeologists will be significantly supported by the opening of the future archaeological museum, where the artifacts of different periods discovered by students and professors through field-practical work and archaeological excavations will be exhibited.

From this point of view, the educational program "Archaeology" based at the Technical University of Georgia is considered the successor of the "Technical Expertise of Antiquities" program that has been successfully operating until now. The process of presenting an archaeological artifact as a museum exhibit is a harbinger of the future brilliance of Georgian national culture.
