Educational and scientific center of theology

On September 28, 2001, at the meeting of the Great Board of the Georgian Technical University, blessed by of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, at the Humanitarian and Technical Faculty of the Georgian Technical University the Department of Theology (later the Theology Training and Research Center) was founded.

International scientific conferences were held in GTU, which were attended by His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II and members of the Holy Synod.

Blessed by His Holiness, with the support of the rectorate, chapel-laboratories named after St. George, St. Nino, and St. David Agmashenebeli were founded in GTU. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of GTU and the 20th anniversary of the Theology Center, these laboratories were painted at the initiative of Rector Davit Gurgenidze.

The scientific-historical journal "Svetitskhoveli" was founded by the Patriarchate of Georgia, the Engineering Academy of Georgia and the Theological Research Center of the Georgian Technical University, whose editor-in-chief is Professor, Metropolitan Anania Japaridze. The edition of the magazine "Svetitskhovli" established by the "Fully Georgian Catholic Council" at the beginning of the 20th century (in 1917) by the ordination of the holy priest-martyr Patriarch Kirion II was effectively restored by the publication of the magazine.

In 2016, the educational and scientific center of theology is part of the faculty of engineering economy, media technologies and social sciences.

An important achievement during the existence of the center is the creation of the "theology" doctoral program.

The center has published textbooks, monographs, including ``The History of the Apostolic Church of Georgia'' by Professor, Metropolitan Anania Japaridze.
