Folies

The theme of folies explores the liminal state of architecture, where an architectural object remaining as such does not find place in the traditional coordinates of architectural meaning.

The folies surpass the binarism of function/decoration. In the expansion of the semantic field new pair emerges: non-function/non-decoration. In this new binary opposition, new creative practice emerges.

The creation of physical artifacts belongs to the techne. From antiquity onward poetics is a study and practice of literary creation.

The folies displace the architectural object (techne) to semiotic field, where the precondition of its production is poetics.

The works presented were done by our students Natalie Bezarashvili and Shota Jojua. "You can only teach how to learn" - these works exemplify this paragraph from the manifesto of poetics of architecture: many of the folies were done after graduation, beyond class assignments.
