The department integrates the educational program of the Faculty of Energy and Telecommunications - "Energy and Electrical Engineering" undergraduate study modules - "Power Stations, Networks and Systems", "Electromechanics", "Management in Energy", "Power Supply", "Automated Electric Drive", the specified educational program also includes Master's Specializations of "Power Plants, Networks and Systems", "Electromechanics", "Management in Energy" and Ph.D.

The purpose of the educational program developed by the department is to prepare competitive personnel in the free labor market in the field of energy and electrical engineering, for which it is necessary to acquire the necessary knowledge of long-distance transmission of electrical energy through a high-voltage network, its correct distribution among consumers, regulation of parameters of electrical modes, pre-targeted management of electrical systems, This includes mastering the skills of installation, debugging, testing, operation and repair of energy installations and equipment, studying non-traditional sources of energy, energy-efficient technologies and methods of improving the reliability of the energy system.

The educational-scientific laboratory base equipped with modern equipment at the base of the department serves the purpose of implementing the educational programs established by the department:

1. The latest digital relay protection laboratory installed free of charge by the American company SEL (SCHWEITZER ENGINEERING LABORATORIES);

2. The latest teaching-scientific laboratory base of high-voltage equipment was also provided free of charge by the German company "Hermann Matern" Dresden.

3. A program - ATPDrow, designed for the calculation of overvoltages caused by commutation, has been introduced.

4. The laboratory for diagnostics of high-voltage electrical equipment is at a modern level.

5. A virtual laboratory of electrical energy quality, where it will be possible to study and evaluate the deterioration of electrical energy quality caused by various reasons in the high-voltage transmission network through computer modeling.

Virtual laboratories in the department for functionaries in different disciplines (in power plants, networks and systems, electric machines, transformers, etc.). Computer technologies are widely implemented in other disciplines as well.

In the department, the state of providing students with textbooks in their native language has been significantly improved (electronic versions, book fund):

G. Makharadze - "Electroenergetic (electrical) systems". 2017 year.

G. Makharadze, T. Jikia - "Power Station Networks", 2017.

A. Kokhtashvili - "Power stations and substations", 2018.

R. Arveladze - "Energy crisis in Georgia," 2017.

Sh. Natchkebia, M. Rukhvadze - "Modern sources of electric energy generation", 2017.

E. Gersamia - "Technological bases of electric vehicle construction", 2017.
