The department combines: the educational program "Energy and Electrical Engineering" with the undergraduate study modules - "Thermal Energy Installations" and "Non-Traditional Energy and Energy Efficiency"; Master's degree specializations - "Heat energy" and "Energy and environment" and doctoral studies.
The field of scientific interests of the department is: thermal energy; thermal power plants; heat supply; Modern technologies of solid heating combustion; energy-saving and energy-efficient technologies; renewable energy resources; energy management; energy audit; environmental safety of power plants and optimization of work modes; technical diagnostics of power plants, computer expert and training systems; cogeneration of electrical and thermal energy; Non-traditional generation facilities and systems; Investment effectiveness of energy projects and issues of risk assessment; creation of facilities for efficient use of renewable energy resources and introduction of complex schemes for the protection of the ecological system.
The members of the department actively cooperate with various international organizations, companies and investors, participate in international, state and regional programs, are the main executors of both international and local grants. With their direct participation, energy efficiency pilot projects were implemented in Tbilisi and other regions of Georgia, large-scale energy saving technologies were introduced in the household, educational, medical, commercial and industrial sectors.
Bachelor's, master's and doctoral students are involved in the department's activities, participating in a number of grant projects, scientific conferences, getting acquainted with various energy facilities.
Graduates successfully work in a variety of industries, in thermal power plants, in the residential-utility sector, in agro-industrial complexes, in auto-gasification facilities, in scientific-research institutions and design organizations. They are also employed in industrial and commercial enterprises, public organizations, government structures, consulting firms and agencies, international organizations, energy companies, including in management positions.
