The department was created in 2013 on the basis of two directions, namely electrical engineering and industrial electronics. Until now, the department is headed by full professor Simon Nemsadze, who has been working at the Technical University since 1974.

Electrical engineering is a branch of science and technology that studies the generation and practical application of electricity. The widespread use of electrical equipment is explained by the fact that electricity has several advantages over other types of energy. In particular, it provides the possibility of concentrated generation of large power electricity; easily transferred to the place of consumption; easy to distribute in electrical networks; Besides, it is easily created into other types of energy and so on. The above-mentioned issues are studied in the direction of electrical engineering of the department. At all three levels of education (bachelor's, master's, doctorate), complete diagnostics of electrical engineering and energy equipment will be specifically studied using modern methods of science. 5 full professors, 4 associate professors, 3 assistant professors and 3 senior teachers are employed in this direction.

Electronics - the science of the use of electronic devices based on the control of the flow of electrons and other charged particles. Such devices are, for example, semiconductor elements with electronic tubes. In general, systems in electronics are divided into two parts, analog and digital. Analog electronics studies continuous-time electrical processes and the electrical devices used in such processes. Digital electronics studies the electrical devices used in the processing of discrete electrical signals. The above-mentioned issues are studied in the direction of industrial electronics of the department. Here, too, at all three levels of education (bachelor's, master's, doctoral), industrial electronic devices will be specifically studied using modern methods of science. 3 full professors, 3 associate professors, 1 assistant professor and 2 senior teachers are employed in this direction.
